World Table Tennis Championships: G Sathiyan beats Vladimir Sidorenko to enter round 3

G Sathiyan advanced to the round of 32 of the World Table Tennis Championships by defeating 179th-ranked Vladimir Sidorenko on Thursday.

With a 4-0 win over Russia’s Vladimir Sidorenko, India’s G Sathiyan advanced to the third round of the World Table Tennis Championships in men’s singles.

In the round of 64, India’s world number 37 overcame his 179th-ranked opponent 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6. In the round of 32, Sathiyan will play world number 17 Aruna Quadri of Nigeria.

On Tuesday, India’s top-ranked player, world number 30 Sharath Kamal, was eliminated in the first round.

Sharath, on the other hand, may still make an impact in men’s doubles with Sathiyan and mixed doubles with Archana Kamath.

With a 3-0 win over Algeria’s Sami Kherouf and Katia Kessaci, Sharath and Archana advanced to the round of 32.

Sathiyan and Manika Batra received a first-round bye and will face Adriana Diaz and Brian Afanador of Puerto Rico in the round of 32 mixed doubles.

In women’s doubles, Manika and Archana have a first-round bye.
